Solar Skylight Tubes Go Back to School
Tuesday, September 21, 2010 3:00:43 PM MDT
With school now in full swing let’s take a look around the nation at what different schools are doing to lower their carbon footprints. Many schools have begun to turn to solar skylight tubes to bring natural light into newly renovated buildings lets share some examples.
In Pennsylvania, James Buchanan High School is undergoing a major overhaul to update the nearly 40-year-old building. They are also installing solar tubes with the intention of saving on utility expenses and making the school more conducive to learning.
In North Carolina, Watauga High School installed solar light tubes in their school because of the construction not allowing natural light into some of their classrooms.
In Colorado the Ellicott School District 22 installed solar tubes in one of their high schools to allow interior classrooms to have natural light.
In Kentucky, Bristow Elementary is taking steps, including installing solar tubes and ceiling prisms, to become a net-zero school, which means it will produce more clean energy than it uses.
This is a great trend we are seeing. Installing solar skylight tubes will brighten up all classrooms and they will allow the school to save money on electricity. If you hear of other schools that are doing this tell us about it. We want to promote this and get the word out so more schools will follow in this path.

As earth day approaches I thought it would be appropriate to share ideas about how we can give back to the earth that gives so much to us.
