Solar Skylight Installation/Solar Grow Tube Installation Guide
Before installing, be sure you have all the equipment you need: All item come in a ECO Solar Skylight Tube Kit; however, you may need additional tubing or elbow joints (be sure to read all information on each item when placing your order so you have everything you need).
You will need some basic tools to complete installation: hammer, nails, drill and 1/8" drill bit, drywall saw, reciprocating saw, marker, plumb line, screwdriver and tin snips.
You should also be comfortable working on your roof and in your attic. If you are not comfortable in this setting, you should call a professional to do the installation for you.
There are six basic steps to installing your Solar Light Tubes(each of these will be discussed in detail to aid in the installation process):
- Choose the right location
- Cut out ceiling and roof holes
- Install the flashing
- Install the tube
- Install the dome
- Install the diffuser
Choosing the right location is one of the most important steps is installing your Solar Light Tube lighting. Taking the time to find the proper location will save time on the install, help to prevent problems with installing the lighting and provide the best final result.
1) Find a good spot between ceiling joists and roof rafters. You don't want to be cutting into the structural elements of your home.
2) Try to choose a location that will allow for a straight run from the ceiling to the roof. Although you can use elbow joints, your install will be much easier and you will yield a higher light output if you are able to have a straight run.
3) Ensure that there are NO electrical wires or other obstructions in the location you have chosen to install your Solar Skylight Tube lighting.

Cut out ceiling and roof holes:
Now that you've finalized the location to install, its time to cut out holes in the ceiling and roof.
1) From inside the room, push a small nail (or use a hammer) into the center of where the diffuser will be located.
2) From the attic, use a plumb line to find the spot directly above where you place the nail in the ceiling. Drill a hole in the roof to mark that location.
3) Inside the room, center the nail/nail hole in the ceiling ring. Draw a line around the interior of the ceiling ring.
4) Cut out the hole along the lines using a drywall saw. (You may want to place a tarp on the ground directly below where you will be cutting to allow for easier clean-up)
5) Install the ceiling ring
6) From the roof, center the flashing on the hole you drilled earlier. Use a reciprocating saw to cut out the hole in the roof.

Now that the roof hole is cut, you will need to install the flashing.
1) Remove or cut any roofing nails from underneath the shingles around the top half of your hole.
2) Prepare the flashing by caulking the underside.
3) Insert the flashing underneath the shingles and tar paper, pushing it up until the shingles come in contact with the raised portion of the flashing
4) Use the screws provided to secure the flashing to the roof.

Once you've completed installation of the flashing, you are ready to build and install the tube.
1) In order to determine how much tubing you will need, measure the distance from the top of the flashing to the ceiling.
2) Assemble the appropriate length of tubing. Remove the protective film from inside the tubing.
3) Insert the tube through the flashing until it is even with the ceiling ring.
4) Secure the tube to the flashing and ceiling ring using the screws provided in your Solar Light Tube lighting kit.
5) Use tin snips to remove any excess tubing hanging out of the flashing.

Attach the dome to the flashing using the screws provided in your Solar Skylight Tube lighting kit.

Attach the diffuser and trim ring to the ceiling ring.
You are now ready to enjoy all the beauty of natural light provided by you Solar Light Tube lighting!
